Sustainable design was a key driver when Mesker Park Zoo planned their new Penguins of Patagonia exhibit, slated to open in 2021. Last month, plastic piping coils were sunk to the bottom of the lake – heat transfer through lake water will be used to help heat the penguin pool and building in the winter and keep it cool in the summer. The Zoo also has a unique way for donors to “Make the Dive!” and support this new home for Humboldt penguins by becoming part of the sculpture that will accompany the exhibit.
