Project Type
The L.S. Skaggs Animal Health Center provides indoor and outdoor holding capabilities for large and small animals, dedicated hospital wards, a large treatment room, office area, medical spaces, and a necropsy. The holding area is used as quarantine for all incoming animals to ensure the health of the entire Zoo collection, and in addition, it houses animals as they recover from medical procedures.
The Animal Health Center is LEED Gold Certified. Key features of the design include a rooftop photovoltaic array which provides over 20% of the building’s energy needs, daylighting strategies to enhance occupant comfort and reduce energy use, and the use of sustainable materials throughout the building.
CLR Design worked closely with the Owner throughout the design process to develop strategies that enhanced the function of the building as a hospital through sustainable choices.
