Design Framework Characteristics
Project Type
After many years at the forefront of international zoos, the Singapore Zoo and its partner parks at Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) faced aging infrastructure, internal traffic flow issues, and out-dated exhibit concepts. CLR was asked to create a comprehensive, new Master Plan for WRS. Wildlife Reserves Singapore is home to the Singapore Zoo, one of the world’s most famous and innovative zoos, as well as the equally innovative Night Safari and River Safari at the Mandai precinct. The three parks are adjacent to each other but separately gated, and thus the planning presented unique challenges not faced by a typical zoo master plan.
The Master Plan also called for crafting more thematic organization of exhibits, implementation of sustainable Activity-Based Management and Landscape Immersion concepts, all while balancing the park’s originality, creativity, distinctiveness, and attractiveness.
The resulting document, a blueprint to maintain Wildlife Reserves Singapore’s reputation as a standard bearer for innovative and unique guest experiences, was one of the most complex Master Plans CLR has ever developed.
