We design animal habitats that pattern life in the wild, drawing in guests to become educated, engaged and enlightened. An exhibit that replicates an animal’s natural environment in terrain, vegetation and other physical elements is enriching for animals and guests alike.
Landscape immersion, pioneered by CLR’s founders in the mid-1970s, brings the guest into the animal’s domain. It is transformative to see a gibbon brachiating through the fig trees, jaguar perched overhead, or zebra, ostrich and kudu grazing together on the African savanna.
Guests immersed in a habitat realize an enhanced respect for the animal that translates to a clearer understanding of the institution’s conservation message. Animal activity and well-being are at the forefront of all design at CLR; landscape immersion creates a rich environment with abundant choice for animals to be animals.
